Two finalists from UNP for Best Baseball Book of the Year

Spitball: The Literary Baseball Magazine has announced the finalists for the 2012 CASEY Award for Best Baseball Book of the Year. UNP’s Connie Mack by Norman L. Macht and Banzai Babe Ruth by Robert K. Fitts were among the finalists. The CASEY Award started in 1983 as a way to honor the authors and publishers of outstanding baseball books. UNP comes away with two awards at WHA

The University of Nebraska Press attended the Western History Association’s 52nd annual conference last week in Denver, Colorado. Brian Frehner’s Finding Oil: The Nature of Petroleum Geology, 1859-1920 won the Hal K. Rothman Award for the best book in western environmental history and Anne Hyde’s Empires, Nations, and Families: A History of the North American West, 1800-1860 (part of UNP’s History of the American West series) won the Caughey Western History Prize for the best book of the year in western history. Aadland wins first place prize

Congratulations to Dan Aadland for winning the 1st place prize for book/E-book in the 2012 Excellence in Craft contest sponsored by the Outdoor Writers Association of America! His book, In Trace of TR: A Montana Hunter’s Journey, is a quest to hunt Teddy Roosevelt's favorite places offering an introspective commentary on the ecology of the Northern Plains, the psyche of the West, Roosevelt's historical significance, and the culture and perceptions of hunting.
