2012 National Jewish Book Award announcement

The History of the Holocaust in Romania by Jean Ancel published by UNP and Yad Vashem won the Writing Based on Archival Material category of the 2012 National Jewish Book Awards. The History of the Holocaust in Romania is a comprehensive analysis of the Holocaust in Romania during World War II. Jean Ancel (1940–2008) was a Romanian-born Israeli independent historian and a research associate of Yad Vashem’s International Institute for Holocaust Research. Two finalists from UNP for Best Baseball Book of the Year

Spitball: The Literary Baseball Magazine has announced the finalists for the 2012 CASEY Award for Best Baseball Book of the Year. UNP’s Connie Mack by Norman L. Macht and Banzai Babe Ruth by Robert K. Fitts were among the finalists. The CASEY Award started in 1983 as a way to honor the authors and publishers of outstanding baseball books. UNP comes away with two awards at WHA

The University of Nebraska Press attended the Western History Association’s 52nd annual conference last week in Denver, Colorado. Brian Frehner’s Finding Oil: The Nature of Petroleum Geology, 1859-1920 won the Hal K. Rothman Award for the best book in western environmental history and Anne Hyde’s Empires, Nations, and Families: A History of the North American West, 1800-1860 (part of UNP’s History of the American West series) won the Caughey Western History Prize for the best book of the year in western history.
