Miscellaneous February Author Events

CalendarWell, it looks like the local author scene is a bit sparse this month. Even authors can fall prey to the romance in the air (or is it just the below zero temperatures?) and perhaps choose to spend some time curled up indoors. But rest assured, we still have some great events coming up this month. Ted Kooser will brave the cold tomorrow for an appearance at a Barnes & Noble store in Lincoln, NE. If you’re a non-Nebraskan, we haven’t forgotten about you! We’ve also listed select events on both coasts. Enjoy!

First, and perhaps most appropriate for the season, is an event for Valentines by Ted Kooser, illustrated by Robert Hanna. Both Kooser and Hanna will participate in a book signing at the O Street Barnes & Noble in Lincoln, Nebraska on February 2nd at 2:00 PM.

If you’re in the New York City vicinity, check out the upcoming events in your area for Queer Lives, translated and edited by William A. Peniston and Nancy Erber. There are two NYC readings coming up for this book, just in case your February schedule has left little time for artistic indulgence! You can venture to the reading at the Museum of Sex at 233 Fifth Avenue at 27th Street in New York, NY on Wednesday, February 20th from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, or opt for the subsequent reading at the LGBT Community Center at 208 West 13th Street in New York, NY on Thursday, February 26th, also from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.

Enjoying sunnier climates in the Los Angeles, California area? We here in Nebraska are envious! But to show you that there are no hard feelings, we offer you an event with Just Breathe Normally author Peggy Shumaker. You can catch her reading and book signing event at the Geffen Playhouse for the Red Hen Press’s new series called “Red Hen at the Geffen.” The reading, entitled “Poets Move Language,” will take place on Monday, February 25th at 7:30 PM at the Geffen Playhouse, Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater, 10886 Le Conte Avenue in Los Angeles, CA.

Finally, a local UNP author will take part in an event at the San Francisco Public Library. The “Radar Reading” series will host a presentation with various authors, including What Becomes You author Aaron Raz Link. You can catch him and his fellow "best emerging and underground writers” in the Main Library at 100 Larkin Street in San Francisco, CA.

Hope you can attend one of our February events! If you don’t see one in your area, don’t forget to check our full list of scheduled UNP author events on our Press Web page at http://nebraskapress.unl.edu/Catalog/ProductEvents.aspx?SearchOnLoad=true.
