Also last week: Jon Pineda, celebrated the launch of his new book, Sleep in Me, with a reading and signing, which happened to be on his sister Rica’s birthday. This is significant, as in Sleep in Me is Pineda’s account of becoming a young man at the same time his big sister Rica sustains a traumatic brain injury, from which she never recovers, in a car accident. Pineda, who is a prize-winning poet, describes in beautiful language the profound effect of the accident on his sister, his family, and on his own life.
Pineda has another forthcoming event on Oct. 9 from noon to 2 p.m. at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Chesapeake, Va. There will be a reading and a signing for those who are able to attend. If you aren’t going to be in the area (like many of us, here in Nebraska), Pineda’s book will be featured in many Barnes & Noble stores from November through January, as part of the Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Authors program. Several times a year, Barnes & Noble selects the best forthcoming new work by debuting authors features those authors in stores everywhere. Pretty good deal, huh? So make sure to check out Sleep in Me — it’ll be everywhere soon!
