The University of Nebraska Press attended the Western
History Association’s 52nd annual conference last week in Denver,
Colorado.

Brian Frehner’s Finding Oil: The Nature of Petroleum
Geology, 1859-1920 won the Hal K. Rothman Award for the best book in
western environmental history and Anne Hyde’s

Empires, Nations, and Families: A History of the North American West,
1800-1860 (part of UNP’s History of the American West series) won the
Caughey Western History Prize for the best book of the year in western
history.

Congratulations to Brian and
Anne! We enjoyed seeing so many of our
authors at the conference and are looking forward to next year’s meeting.
