One Book One Lincoln
Let's start close to home, shall we? One Book One Lincoln is wrapping up but there are still a few upcoming events. In case you've forgotten, this year's pick was Destiny of the Republic by Candice Millard. In addition to being the One Book One Lincoln choice, it came highly recommended to me by Cinnamon from A Novel Idea. After all that I knew I had to read it and now I recommend it to you.

It's time again for NaNoWriMo
That's "National Novel Writing Month." Write a novel in a month! It started back in 1999 with just 21 partcipants and has grown and grown. Last year there were 256,618 participants! You guys are nuts (in the best possible way).
Literature of the Midwest
There is an article up at The Millions (I always have to stop and remind myself that this isn't referring to the local band from the 1990s) called Bridge Across the Country: On the Literature of the Midwest which has given me a few books to add to my TBR pile. This also would seem like a good time for me to plug our own Flyover Fiction series, edited by Ron Hansen.
The books in Flyover Fiction are set on the Great Plains, a region located in the center of the country and referred to either sentimentally as the Heartland or dismissively as flyover country, a region more clearly defined by what it is not than by what it is. Books in this series actively engage–through plot, character, setting, or theme–with what it means to inhabit this region.
