Foreword Indies Book Awards

Thousands of books are entered each year, and over 100 librarians and booksellers take part in the judging process, narrowing down a group of finalists in 55 categories to Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners that truly represent the best in independent publishing.

Adult Nonfiction

The Great Indoorsman (Nebraska, 2022) by Andrew Farkas is a Gold Winner in the Humor category.

If This Were Fiction (Nebraska, 2022) by Jill Christman is a Silver Winner in the Autobiography & Memoir category.

Animal Bodies (Nebraska, 2022) by Suzanne Roberts is a Bronze Winner in the Essays category.

Will Rogers Medallion Award

 The Will Rogers Medallion Award was originally created to recognize quality works of cowboy poetry that honored the Will Rogers heritage, but has expanded to include other works of Western literature and film. The awards competition takes place annually, and the winners will be announced October 21st.

Oklahoma Odyssey (Bison Books, 2022) by John Mort is a finalist in the Western Traditional Fiction category.

The Dakota Way of Life (Bison Books, 2022) by Ella Cara Deloria, edited by Raymond J. DeMallie and Thierry Veyrié is a finalist in the Western Nonfiction category.

Larry Ritter Book Award

Each year, SABR’s Deadball Era Committee presents the Larry Ritter Book Award to recognize the best new baseball book primarily set in the Deadball Era that was published during the previous calendar year. 

Charlie Murphy by Jason Cannon is the 2023 winner.
