UNP’s running and walking team, Footnotes, participated in the 25th annual Lincoln Track Club Holiday Run (1-mile and 5K) at Pioneers Park on Sunday, December 7. All proceeds (roughly $4000.00) went to the Capital Humane Society. #RunForBowWowsAndMeowsMeows
I thought the windchill in the teens would deter participants but there was a very decent turn out and lots of cheerful faces. The Humane Society brought several cold hardy dogs who needed to be adopted and lots of runners and walkers showed up with their dogs. The huskies could be heard yipping with excitement, raring to go before the race started. The snow on the cross-country course made for a good challenge.
Lindsey, husband Ben, 13-month daughter Phoebe, and their dog Sage participated in the one-mile. The color of Phoebe’s nose was proof of how cold it was and what a trooper she is. I was secretly hoping the cold would lessen the competition for the presents strewn along the course, but I struck out. (Maybe next year?) All registrants received an evergreen knit hat and there were plenty of chunky cookies and hot chocolate at the finish, so no complaints from me.
