UNP at the 33nd Annual NINE Spring Training Conference

Today, March 4, through Friday, March 6, UNP will be at the 33nd Annual NINE Spring Training Conference!

The Spring Training Conference is a multi-disciplinary academic conference, featuring presentations on a wide range of baseball topics, including history, analytics, law, media analysis, literature, architecture, cultural studies, rhetoric, and more.

Senior Acquisitions Editor Rob Taylor will be in attendance alongside a number of UNP authors such as Steve Gietschier, Robert K. Fitts, Dave Bohmer, Jason Cannon, and more.

Wednesday, March 4: The CY Seymore Lead-Off Season

7:30 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. Robert Fitts, author of In the Japanese Ballpark, Mashi, Banzai Babe Ruth, Issei Baseball, and Wally Yonmine, to participate in “From San Francisco to Tokyo: A Celebration of Lefty O’Doul and Asian Baseball History and Culture” film screening and a panel discussion.

Thursday, March 5: UNP Author Presentations

10:00- 11:50 a.m. Mitch Nathanson, author of Under Jackie’s Shadow, to present “The Bobo Newsom Memorial Society and the Creation of the ’62 Mets.”

Friday, March 6: UNP Author Presentations

10:00- 11:45 a.m. Dave Bohmer, author of Ford Frick, will join The Mickey Haefner Session and discuss “Why Cooperstown?”

3:35- 5:25 p.m. Steve Gietschier, author of Baseball: The Turbulent Midcentury Years, will present “‘I Know of No Rule of Law’: Stan Musial. Walter O’Malley, and the Korean War’s Wage and Price Controls”
