My Book Arrived

Famous A package was delivered to my porch yesterday from University of Nebraska Press. My son brought it in and the family stood around while I opened it—twenty copies of my first book, Famous. It is a beautiful thing. After a few minutes, the family wandered off, but I didn’t want it out of reach or sight, put one copy in the kitchen while I cooked and one in the office while I read email, and when it was time for bed I took one for my nightstand. Could this beautiful thing be mine? Creamy paper, elegant font, cover image I never could have dreamed up which perfectly suits the poems, this physical object. A host of people in Nebraska I’ve never met have made it real. My team. My clan. Thank you. Kathleen

  1. Kathleen:
I felt the same way when The Fortune Teller’s Kiss arrived. A beautiful physical object, the book, to be sure. I even wrote a poem about it and sent it to Nebraska!
    Enjoy. Brenda

  2. Congratulations, Kathleen. I’ve taught FAMOUS once and will teach it again next semester in my graduate seminar. We at PRAIRIE SCHOONER are pleased to know the book is having such a splendid reception: one of 27 ALA listings for the best books, and one of three in poetry. Hilda
