The University of Nebraska Press is pleased to announce a new book series that will focus on critical comics studies. The series, Encapsulations, will offer close readings of carefully delineated bodies of comics work with an emphasis on expanding the critical range and depth of comics studies. The series editors are Martin Lund and Julia Round.

By showcasing new interdisciplinary perspectives and addressing emerging conceptual, formal, and methodological problems, Encapsulations promotes new approaches, contributes to the diversity of comics scholarship, and delves into uncharted sections of the comics archive.

The first book in this series, Aquaman and the War against Oceans, is now available. In Aquaman and the War against Oceans, Ryan Poll argues that in this twenty-first-century iteration, Aquaman becomes an accessible figure for charting environmental violences endemic to global capitalism and for developing a progressive and popular ecological imagination. Poll contends that The New 52 Aquaman should be read as an allegory that responds to the crises of the Anthropocene, in which the oceans have become sites of warfare and mass death.
