UP Week: WHAT Does your Press do to #TeamUP?

Happy University Press Week! Help us celebrate university presses November 10-14. Since 2012, members of the Association of University Presses have participated in an annual celebration of University Presses.

The theme for this year’s UP Week is “Team UP,” to celebrate the ways that university presses and their authors Team UP with a vast network of reviewers, booksellers, freelancers, translators, librarians, teachers, and students to advance knowledge and understanding.

The #UPweek blog tour today asks “WHAT does your press do to TeamUP?” Posts on today’s topic come from Catholic University of America Press, University of Illinois Press, Columbia University Press, Johns Hopkins University Press, University of Michigan Press, Duke University Press, University of Rochester Press, Athabasca University Press, Mercer University Press, Clemson University Press, Princeton University Press, Edinburgh University Press, University of Texas Press, and University of Chicago Press.

For our contribution, Lead Senior Designer Lindsey Welch discusses UNP’s collaboration with UNL’s Love Library to host the 2024 AUP Book, Jacket, and Journal Show.

In March of this year, UNP partnered with Love Library to display the 2024 AUP Book, Jacket, and Journal Show for two weeks. UNP staff wanted to bring the show to the greater campus community . . . and brag a little about two winning UNP cover designs—Godfall by Van Jensen and The Sound of Undoing: A Memoir in Essays by Paige Towers.

A few months prior to the show, I contacted Love’s Events Coordinator Regina and Graphics Designer Erin to coordinate time, place, promotional materials, an e-blast, and signage. It was a smooth and easy process. The folks at Love were hospitable, collaborative, and excited to feature the show. We made an excellent team and established a partnership for years to come.

Finding the perfect space in Love Library North was a bit of a challenge during some employee office relocations, but in the shuffle, an office was serendipitously available in time for the show. It had plenty of space and natural light—perfect for perusing books.

Many students, faculty, and staff stopped by to browse the show. One written comment said, “Super cool; love diversity in the titles, authors, and [design] styles.” Another said, “Cool to think about book design!”

We look forward to partnering with Love Library again for the 2025 Book, Jacket, and Journal Show, which includes another winning jacket design from UNP: The Fenway Effect: A Cultural History of the Boston Red Sox by David Krell. We also hope to partner with various UNL departments for the celebration: English; Journalism and Mass Communications; and the School of Art, Art History & Design.

The 2025 Book, Jacket, and Journal show will be in town March 2-13, 2026, at the Love Library. More details to come!
