Announcing the Georgia Review Books series

The University of Nebraska Press is pleased to announce the recent partnership with The Georgia Review to publish the Georgia Review Books series. Georgia Review Books showcases work that, per The Georgia Review mission statement, “challenges us to reconsider any line, distinction, or thought in danger of becoming too rigid or neat, so that our readers can continue the conversations in their own lives.” The series editor is Gerald Maa, director and editor of The Georgia Review.

“I’m excited and thankful for the opportunity to continue the Georgia Review Books with the University of Nebraska Press. I approached them out of utmost respect for the literary work they’ve been doing, both currently and over the decades,” said Maa. “The excitement truly became palpable since talking to Courtney and has grown with each UNP person I’ve met. We’re all very excited about this joint venture.”

To celebrate National Poetry Month, UNP is thrilled to announce Portolan: Poems by Daniela Danz and translated by Monika Cassel as the first book in the series, which will be published January 1, 2027.

“What excites me most about the Georgia Review Series joining Nebraska is the way it builds on our commitment to publishing outstanding literary work. This is a series with a real reputation for quality, discernment, and depth, and we’re proud to give it a home alongside our other poetry, fiction, and literary nonfiction publications,” said Jane Ferreyra, director of the University of Nebraska Press. “We’re especially pleased to begin this new chapter with Portolan, a work as ambitious and globally resonant as the series itself.”

Portolan follows the routes of container shipping that, in our globalized world, connect us all through tourism, warfare, commerce, and ecological disaster. It is the first English translation of Daniela Danz, one of Germany’s most inventive and celebrated poets.

There are two additional projects currently slated for publication in March 2027, including a debut novel from Lawrence-Minh Bùi Davis and a translation by Matt Reeck of Édouard Glissant’s novel Tout-Monde.

“When first approached about the series, I was sold on the mission statement ‘to challenge us to reconsider any line, distinction, or thought in danger of becoming too rigid or neat…’ and could see the series working in tandem with UNP’s already established creative list,” said acquisitions editor, Courtney Ochsner. “Gerald Maa and The Georgia Review have an excellent eye for important and meaningful work and their enthusiasm for the work is contagious.”
