UNP’s running (and walking) team, Footnotes, participated in the 2022 Lincoln Track Club Holiday Run at Pioneers Park on Sunday, December 4th, in brilliant sunshine. All proceeds went to the Capital Humane Society, for a total of $5,000. The Capital Humane Society reported that they had a record number of adoptions this year and that further donations and adoptions are welcome.
It was cheery chaos to share the cross country run/walk with so many dogs and their people. Each human participant received a holiday ornament in their race packet—as well as the option to pick up a gift bag along the race course. The organizers awarded squirrel-shaped cookies to all the canine participants and made sure there were plenty of water dishes for post-race hydration. Some of the dogs also sniffed out the cookies and hot chocolate intended for humans. I wonder if some of the human participants did likewise and tested the squirrel cookies.
