Remembering Ronald Naugle

Ronald C. Naugle, professor and author, passed away on October 26, 2021 at the age of 79.

He was the Huge-Kinne professor of history for 19 years at Wesleyan University, their department chair from 1980-2001, their graduate program chairman from 2002-2005, and a professor emeritus from 2004. In 2003, Ronald Naugle was awarded the Paul Beck Social Studies Teacher of the Year for Nebraska and honored by the Nebraska Humantities Council as a Nebraska Sower.

Among Naugle’s writing credits are Nebraska Quilts and Quiltmakers (Nebraska, 1991)—which was the winner of a Frost Award from the Smithsonian Institute—along with the third and fourth editions of History of Nebraska. The Fourth edition received a Nebraska Book Award in 2015 from the Nebraska Center for the Book. Naugle also co-wrote two films, “White Man’s Way” (1986), winner of a 1987 Clarion Award, and “In the White Man’s Image” (1992).
