UNP staff members are always reading new books, both within our list and outside of what we publish. Here are some of the titles where our noses have been buried.
“I’m reading The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich. Just love all of her stuff!” –Donna Shear
“I started reading Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro and so far I’m fascinated by this tale, told from the perspective of an artificially intelligent “friend” hoping to be chosen by a child for companionship. I’m intrigued by the concept and so far I’m enjoying the beauty of the language in the narration.” –Lacey Losh
“I just finished A Witch in Time by Constance Sayers. This historical fiction novel, mixed with dark magic, fantasy, and romance, is a thrilling page-turner. I enjoyed this book so much that I am now reading Sayers’s second novel, The Ladies of the Secret Circus.” –Emily Wendell
“I’ve been reading Catherine Raven’s Fox & I: An Uncommon Friendship, an engaging account of Raven’s growing acquaintance with a fox that regularly visits her home near Yellowstone. Raven is a recently minted biology PhD who is exploring the question marks of her life, and she finds answers with a persistent fox whose curiosity about the operations of the natural world matches her own. Despite her biological training not to anthropomorphize wild animals, fox becomes a companion and educator in his own right.” –Clark Whitehorn
“I just finished a fun YA trilogy involving the paranormal, and now I’m onto Stephen King’s Later, which also has ghosts. Perfect transition!” –Rosemary Sekora
“I started reading some of Goethe’s collected works recently and my library renewals ran out before I got through The Sorrows of Young Werther. I made the mistake of reading the critical introduction, though, so I knew how it ended anyway!” –Elizabeth Zaleski
“I’ll be reading Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid while I go on vacation. I’ve read some of her other work and greatly enjoyed it so I’m excited to start this one!” –Sarah Kee
